UK closes its last coal-fired power plant (Ratcliffe-on-Soar)

Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station ceased generation on 30 September 2024 — ending 142 years of UK coal-fired electricity. Coal had supplied 80%+ of UK electricity as recently as 1990. Removed all remaining coal generation from the grid.
