UK Energy Data
Live electricity generation, carbon intensity, and interconnector flows. Updated every 5 minutes from official UK government and industry sources.
Data Sources & Methodology
Elexon BMRS
Generation by fuel type, system frequency, and interconnector flows. 5-minute resolution.
data.elexon.co.uk →NESO Carbon Intensity
Grid carbon intensity (gCO₂/kWh) for 14 regions across Great Britain. 30-minute resolution.
carbonintensity.org.uk →Sheffield Solar
Embedded solar PV generation estimate (not in BMRS). 30-minute resolution.
PV_Live →How It Works
- All values are in MW (megawatts) — instantaneous power, not cumulative energy (TWh).
- Timestamps are UK local time (BST/GMT). Raw data is stored in UTC.
- Data refreshes every 5 minutes for generation and interconnectors, every 30 minutes for carbon intensity and solar.
- Interconnector flows: positive = Britain importing, negative = Britain exporting.
- Carbon intensity: grams of CO₂ per kilowatt-hour. Lower is cleaner.
Editorial Note
This data is presented as-is from official sources. We use raw measurements rather than interpretive reports — every institution has incentives that shape how they present data. Our editorial content analyses these numbers in the context of energy policy; this page simply shows what the grid is doing right now.
