About hostile.eco

Our Mission

hostile.eco exists to challenge renewable-only environmental orthodoxy with evidence-based advocacy for Britain's energy independence, nuclear power, and practical conservation.

We're hostile to bad environmental policy - not the environment itself. That means:

  • Transparent methodology: Every claim is sourced. Every statistic is cited. Every visualization shows its data sources.
  • Nuanced positions: We're not anti-renewable - we're anti-poorly-sited renewables. Context matters.
  • Evidence over ideology: If the data changes, our position changes. We're not wedded to conclusions.
  • Practical conservation: Support measurable environmental outcomes, not vague activism.

Why "hostile"?

Britain's natural environment IS hostile - cold, wet, and damp. That's not a criticism; it's reality. And reality should inform policy.

Solar panels in a country that's grey 200 days a year. Wind turbines that require imported gas backup. Wood pellets shipped from North America and called "renewable." These policies ignore British climate realities.

We're hostile to policies that:

  • Sacrifice energy independence for renewable virtue signaling
  • Harm wildlife through poorly-sited developments
  • Ignore full system costs (storage, backup, grid instability)
  • Prioritize imported energy over domestic nuclear power

Our Approach

1. Evidence-Based Analysis

We cite peer-reviewed research, government statistics, and credible data sources. When multiple interpretations exist, we present them fairly.

2. Interactive Data

Complex energy policy deserves better than talking points. Our data visualizations let you explore UK energy mix, costs, and environmental impacts yourself.

3. Nuanced Positions

Example: Wind turbines kill 100,000 birds per year in the UK. Cats kill 55 million. Both numbers are true. Context matters, but so do rare species deaths. Good policy considers both.

4. Practical Conservation

Our long-term goal is to fund conservation initiatives with measurable outcomes: river cleanup with water quality monitoring, tree planting in strategic locations (not just "plant trees"), pollinator habitat restoration with abundance tracking.

Transparency

Funding

Currently self-funded with no external sponsorship. No fossil fuel industry ties. No renewable energy industry ties. No political party funding.

If/when we accept donations, 100% transparency: where money comes from, where it goes, how conservation projects are selected.

Corrections Policy

We will make mistakes. When we do, we correct them publicly and promptly. Corrections will be noted at the top of affected articles with timestamps.

Data Sources

All visualizations link to their data sources. Government statistics, peer-reviewed research, and credible international databases only.

What We're NOT

  • Climate deniers: Climate change is real. Our critique is of renewable-only solutions, not climate science.
  • Fossil fuel advocates: We support nuclear and domestic energy independence, not coal/oil expansion.
  • Anti-environment: We're pro-wildlife, pro-conservation, pro-evidence. Bad renewable policy can harm all three.
  • Politically aligned: Good environmental policy isn't left or right - it's evidence-based.
