EDF announces life extensions for four UK AGR nuclear plants

EDF Energy announced 4 Dec 2024 that all four operating AGR plants would extend: Heysham 1 + Hartlepool by 1 year to Mar 2027; Heysham 2 + Torness by 2 years to Mar 2030. ~45 TWh additional output, displacing ~9.3 bcm of imported gas. Buys grid time before SMRs and Sizewell C.
